Manchester Airport and Scheidt & Bachmann are delighted to jointly announce that the contract for the re-equipping of the airport’s entire estate of parking control systems has been awarded to Scheidt & Bachmann.
The award follows many months of detailed evaluation involving bids from the world’s leading car park systems’ suppliers. The airport’s multi-million pound investment will provide over 250 field units to control more than 30 of the airports’ car parks. S&B will be supplying an integrated control system to manage pre-booked and roll-up parkers for Manchester’s three terminals in both short and long stay operations. In addition, the system will extend to VIP and valet parking operations, staff and service partner parking, and bussing access control. The project will also include for space detection systems in each of the three short stay car parks, indicating vacant spaces and speeding customers to them. The final stage of the project will involve a Taxi Management System to enable a more efficient deployment of taxis to the Terminal forecourts to service passenger demand.
As part of this significant investment into improved customer service and security, Manchester Airport have chosen many of S&B’s latest technical features including:

Abolishing the use of paper tickets by using re-cyclable smart chip coins. Through the use of this increasingly popular parking medium, Manchester Airport will save the need for tens of millions of single-use paper tickets over the coming years.

‘Green Efficient’ Automatic Payment Stations which ‘power down’ when not in use, reducing power consumption, running costs and underling the Airports commitment to achieving its carbon reduction targets.

Use of Automatic Payment Stations specifically designed for use by disabled parkers.

More use of Chip & PIN, providing more ways for secure payments.

Extensive use of Automatic Number Plate Recognition to speed the flow of pre-booked motorists and allow more options for the Airports 19,000 staff and service partners when parking.

S&B’s latest entervo software suite with open interfaces and web-client technology running as virtual machines.

Complimentary barcode functionality to support pre-booking and act as a springboard for Partner and promotional schemes.

The Project will commence in April 2012 and is due for completion in 2013.

Manchester Airport

Manchester Airports Group (MAG) is the UK’s largest domestically-owned airport operator, with four airports – Manchester, East Midlands, Bournemouth and Humberside – serving almost 23 million passengers a year. The airports aren’t just popular, they’re multi-award-winning. Manchester Airport has won prestigious industry recognition for customer service, and holds the title of Best UK Airport.

Scheidt & Bachmann

Scheidt & Bachmann is celebrating its 140th year as a family owned company specialising in transportation systems. Its four divisions specialise in designing and producing innovative control systems in parking, rail ticketing, petrol forecourt systems and railway signalling. It has a presence in over 60 international markets and employs over 2,000 staff.

For more information contact:

Manchester Airport press office on 0161 489 2700 or via email at press.office@manairport.co.uk –

Scheidt & Bachmann – Marketing / Communications
Tel. +49 2166 266 355, Marketing.MG@scheidt-bachmann.de

Scheidt & Bachmann awarded Apcoa contract for Parking Management System at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER)

Apcoa Autoparking GmbH (APCOA) and Scheidt & Bachmann GmbH are continuing their successful collaboration at the airport in Berlin.

Apcoa Autoparking GmbH (APCOA) and Scheidt & Bachmann GmbH are continuing their successful collaboration at the airport in Berlin over the next few years.
The very latest parking management technology from Scheidt & Bachmann will be installed at the capital city's new airport, BER. The tried and tested APCOA standard parking management configuration is being extended to incorporate the specific requirements of the Berlin Airport.
The call for tender for the Berlin airport required, in particular, that the parking management system be incorporated within the complex IT infrastructure of the new airport. In addition, it was required to provide energy-efficient equipment, allow the use of pay stations from wheelchairs and extend the ‘early booking’ and ‘holiday booking facilities’ in the car park pre-booking system.
The environmentally-friendly and easy access parking management system makes an important contribution to the environmental and social acceptability aspects of Berlin's new construction project. With its ‘Green Efficiency’ energy-saving concept and the ‘TÜV-certified’ disabled-friendly automatic pay stations, the Scheidt & Bachmann parking management system fulfils all the requirements of today’s market.
On the opening of the capital’s BER airport on June 3rd 2012 the parking system will manage the parking of cars in more than 15,000 parking spaces and provide automated parking revenue control.

SITA Airport IT and Scheidt & Bachmann renew parking management system at Airport Düsseldorf International (DUS)

At the beginning of March 2012 SITA Airport IT GmbH, Düsseldorf (SAIT) commissioned Scheidt & Bachmann GmbH, from Mönchengladbach, to renew the parking management system at Düsseldorf International Airport. The current system, some of which is over 12 years old, is being totally renovated, whilst reutilising some of the newer components.
This includes an upgrade of the exceedingly successful car park reservation system used by over 350,000 customers, and the supply of new entrance/exit control equipment and automatic pay stations.
The third largest parking system at a German airport is going "green, i.e. environmentally friendly and barrier free," explains Samuel Spaltner. According to Scheidt & Bachmann´s Director for Germany, the airport and its partners are placing great value on the economical use of resources and social awareness in making their investment decisions; the energy-efficient and "easy access" automatic pay stations from Scheidt & Bachmann help to fulfill these demands.
“All car parking control devices contain barcode scanners that can be used by the customers. With this "self-service technology" that is already used for passenger check-in it will be possible in future to sell parking tickets online via "Print@Home" or Smartphones. There are many potential new marketing possibilities using barcodes in print media and synergistically with flight tickets.
The parking management control system is being incorporated within SAIT’s innovative IT landscape" explains Dr Jahncke. As the Managing Director of SITA Airport IT he sees SAIT’s reliable "high-tech" computer centre as the high-availability basis for the hosted virtual instrumentation and control computers of the parking management system.”
SAIT, the IT service provider for Germany's third largest airport, Düsseldorf Airport, is operating the parking management system for 20,000 car parks with the support of APCOA Autoparking.

One of the first installations in the United States using Scheidt & Bachmann was the Seattle-Tacoma (Sea-Tac) International Airport. At the time, 1999, it was the largest application of automated payment stations in the United States. So successful was the application and associated process planning, the operation received both national and international recognition.
12 years later, Sea-Tac has reconfirmed its confidence in Scheidt & Bachmann by awarding them a contract to install the next generation of automated parking solutions. The new system design will leverage the high incidence of credit card usage by reducing the number of cash machines and increasing the number of credit card only machines.
Scheidt & Bachmann would like to thank SEATAC for affirming our business partnership. Airport parking operations have been positively influenced by the success and stewardship of the Sea-Tac operation.

Boston Logan Airport Expresses Trust in Scheidt & Bachmann Once Again

Boston Logan International Airport continues to trust in the expertise of Scheidt & Bachmann and has awarded an exclusive maintenance contract for the next five years to the Mönchengladbach specialists for parking space management systems. The scope of the contract includes routine or preventative maintenance work, direct support with 24/7 availability and a defined reaction time, the supply of spare parts and the performance of additional services.
The trusting partnership between the Boston Logan Airport and Scheidt & Bachmann has existed since 2004. The complete parking space management system was supplied and installed by Scheidt & Bachmann.
The airport on the east coast of the USA is one of the largest and most frequented airports in the States. In several parking areas, there are around 17,000 parking spaces available for airline passengers. 17 entry and 22 exit points allow customers to access and leave the car parks or areas, almost without any traffic jams. Over the entire area, there are 46 pay machines available to airline passengers to pay for their parking ticket.
Safety and customer service are also put at the forefront in the parking areas at the airport. Frequent flyers are offered a permanent parker program (Parking PASSPort) which can be accessed online using the website.
Customers can choose between an express exit and exits with payment points. A popular feature with customers is that the parking space ID is printed on the ticket when paying at the pay machine. This means they quickly find their cars again after a longer time away, without having to search. This is made possible by the fully integrated identification detection system at the entry and exit points and manual space records. Both systems are compared automatically.

With the construction of a new terminal, McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, USA, is setting itself up for the future. The provision of additional parking spaces also counts as one of the attractive services on offer for airline passengers. A new car park will be built in the direct vicinity which will be equipped with entervo - the innovative parking management system from Scheidt & Bachmann. This means that more than 4500 additional parking spaces for passengers and airport staff are created over six levels. The car park will be ready to start operating in July 2012.
Scheidt & Bachmann equipment is already part of the airport's appearance: easy parking in the existing car parks and parking areas has been realised by entervo since 2010. After a year of construction time, the first installation phase was successfully completed. The possibilities that entervo offers the parking operators and the local service offered by a Scheidt & Bachmann team resulted in awarding the work to Scheidt & Bachmann once again. Another decisive advantage: the previous server structure will be changed to a virtual system. This means that the existing and the new parking areas are integrated into a complete system. An overall view of all occurrences in parking at the airport is therefore conveniently possible. Scheidt & Bachmann and the McCarran International Airport are looking towards continuing the successful partnership.

Martin Kammler has been General Manager in the parking and leisure centre systems business division since 1st January 2011.
Mr Kammler is no stranger to the team in the business division: he has been managing the team in the petrol station systems business division at Scheidt & Bachmann very successfully for almost 4 years. Until this function is transferred to a new general manager, Martin Kammler is responsible for both divisions parallel to each other.
Mr Kammler has been involved with the wide-ranging business field of IT solutions for transport & mobility for more than 20 years. After starting off his professional career as a software developer, he has worked in various management positions in project management, development and sales.
Martin Kammler has already personally introduced himself to many companies in the parking branch. The contacts were consistently positive. "I have become more familiar with the branch and found it to be very innovative. Scheidt & Bachmann will continue to be a reliable partner in realising high-performance solutions for our customers," says the IT specialist Kammler.
New business partners, a new internationally positioned team – certainly plenty of work. "However," says Kammler, "I have been at Scheidt & Bachmann for four years and know the strength of the team and the company; we are looking to the future with confidence!"

The car park ‘Oberanger’ in Munich was awarded this year’s “Test Winner” at the ADAC – Parking Garage Test. Scheidt & Bachmann would like to sincerely congratulate Contipark, the owner and the operator to this award!
The ADAC tested a total of 50 car parks in ten German cities. All tested car parks were assessed based to a comprehensive list of criteria according to the same categories. Park-processing systems technology played a key role in the criteria “user-friendliness” and “safety”. The test winner was here able to score with its license plate recognition system, the pay stations adapted to disabled persons, the access recognition and the cashless payment options.
Many car park operators increasingly rely on customer comfort as a competitive advantage. Scheidt & Bachmann, as systems supplier for parking management systems, supports these endeavours.
Scheidt & Bachmann offers comfort and sustainability with the following systems features:

Intuitively operable, energy-efficient equipment;

Various payment options with cash or bank card at automatic pay stations or upon exit;

A clever traffic guidance system to reduce traffic to find a parking space;

Video surveillance or license plate recognition at entries and exits.

Winning the test for a parking garage fitted with the most up-to-date park-processing technology confirms the success of the previous year of the parking garage ‘MyZeil’ (P30 Palais Quartier) in Frankfurt at the ADAC Parking Garage Test 2009.
