The administrative and station level makes all the basic data available for the field level to function properly. However, in return the computer systems in this hierarchy also record the status and results of front end installations at the stations and in vehicles, process them and may pass them on to the strategic system level. Depending on the project requirements the administrative and station levels can also be installed in separate locations from each other. This makes sense with ticketing management systems in closed metro systems, for example.
This kind of back office system consists of an application / fileserver and a database server as expected. This “host computer architecture” may have a whole number of workgroup clients as well as data security and archiving systems attached to it online (e.g. via LAN/WAN).
